Dear Church,
We're continuing our trek through Genesis this week. On the podcast, Joe and Tim discuss the Flood narrative in chapter 7. They describe the Flood as a literal, global event—unprecedented both geologically and spiritually—emphasizing how catastrophic forces like torrential rain and the “fountains of the deep” reshaped the earth. They contrast flood geology’s “catastrophist” interpretation with the standard “uniformitarian” view, arguing that large-scale geological features are better explained by sudden, massive events like the Flood. They reflect on how the destruction represents both divine judgment and salvation—God saving Noah’s family while eradicating a corrupt world. Finally, they draw theological lessons, noting that salvation often feels chaotic or painful in the moment and that modern comfort can make it harder to accept the reality of divine justice and judgment.
