Dear Church,
If you've been following along with our daily advent readings, you can find the updated list here. This week, out service will feature two songs our advent choir has been practicing, our call to worship will be O Come, O Come, Emmanuel and we will end the service with Savior of the Nations, Come. Everyone is invited to sing along, with the choir providing harmonizing parts.
This week is the third week of advent and we will be lighting the joy candle. On the podcast, Joe and rick discuss Matthew 11. They explain how John the Baptist, though faithful and courageous, struggled with unmet expectations while in prison, leading him to send disciples to ask Jesus if He was truly the Messiah. Jesus responds by pointing to the prophecies He is fulfilling, affirming John’s role as the promised forerunner (the “Elijah” who was to come) and emphasizing that even the least in the Kingdom is greater than John because of the blessings of salvation. They describe how both John’s austerity and Jesus’ celebratory style were rejected by that generation, illustrating how some people refuse joy no matter how God presents truth. Finally, they reflect on Jesus’ warnings to unrepentant cities and His invitation to the weary to find rest in Him, urging the church to embrace joy, humility, and responsibility within their communities.
