Dear Church,
Since many of us will be at the bluegrass festival this week, we're taking a break from Genesis and will have a brief church service at the campgound focusing on with scriptures that speak to worship through song. We'll decide the best time for the service once we know what everyone has planned Sunday.
On the podcast, Joe and Tim discuss the biblical basis for music in church, focusing on Ephesians chapter 5. They argue that church music should be participatory and congregational rather than performance-oriented or overly professionalized worship styles. They explain that "psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs" all refer to types of songs found within the book of Psalms, which should be central to worship. The speakers conclude that since the Psalms mention instruments, they should be used to accompany and support the singing of the congregation, not to overpower it.
