Dear Church,
Our journey continues this week in Genesis, on the podcast, Joe and Rick discuss Genesis 2:1–3, focusing on the seventh day of creation when God rested. Rick emphasizes that the word “finished” in the Hebrew implies not just completion but purpose, linking it to Jesus’ words on the cross, “It is finished.” They explore the theological significance of God’s rest—not because He needed it, but as a model for humanity, leading to the concept of Sabbath. Rick explains how the Sabbath became a covenant sign for Israel, later distorted by legalism in Jesus’ time, which Jesus confronted by redefining its true purpose. They also discuss the shift from Saturday to Sunday worship in early Christianity, marking the resurrection and new creation in Christ. Ultimately, the Sabbath points to a deeper spiritual rest found in Jesus, freeing believers from striving for salvation through works. Listen to the podcast on Spotify or Apple Podcasts.
