Dear Church,
Our walk through Genesis continues this week. On the podcast, Joe and Tim discuss Genesis 11; the Tower of Babel. Tim explain that the Babel story likely involves only a subset of humanity that had already scattered, and that this group intentionally resisted God’s command to fill the earth by uniting to build a city and tower for self-exaltation. God intervenes by confusing their language to halt their unified rebellion, scattering them further and creating the cultural and linguistic diversity reflected in global myths and archaeological parallels like pyramid structures. They also discuss how the genealogy of Shem that follows is included to trace the line toward Abraham and note the dramatic post-flood decline in human lifespans across generations. They conclude by observing that these shortened lifespans likely produced a uniquely disorienting period in early human history, shaping cultural memory and possibly traditional medical practices.
