Dear Church,

In celebration of Holy Week, we will have three services this week. First will be Maundy Thursday at the Miltons' (6554 S Datura St). This will be include a foot-washing service followed by a Passover Seder and full meal together. The service will begin at 5pm this Thursday. Our Good Friday service will be at the Strawbridges' (2760 S Ogden St) on Friday at 6:30pm. As a reminder, we traditionally leave the Good Friday service in silence. Finally, we will be at the Andersons' (4061 S Cherokee St) for Easter at 10am on Sunday. Easter Sunday will also be our first week collecting an offering.

Our journey through Mark concludes this week with two podcasts. First, Joe and Tim discuss the events leading up to and including Jesus’ arrest, trial, and crucifixion as described in Mark 14:43-15:47, with a focus on the Good Friday narrative. Then, in the second podcast of the week, and the last in Mark, Joe and Rick discuss Mark 16, recounting the resurrection of Jesus, his appearances to the disciples, and his commission and ascension to heaven. They discuss how the women—Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome—discovered an empty tomb and encountered an angel who announced that Jesus had risen. They highlight that the disciples initially struggled with disbelief until Jesus appeared to them in person, confirming his resurrection with physical proofs. The conversation also covers Jesus’ Great Commission, where he rebukes the apostles for their unbelief and sends them out to preach the gospel, promising that miraculous signs will follow those who believe. Lastly, Joe and Rick address textual issues regarding the ending of Mark, affirming that the majority of manuscripts support the inclusion of these verses as authentic and essential to the resurrection account. Listen to the podcast on Spotify or Apple Podcasts.
