On this week's episode Tim and Stephen discuss Genesis 43, where the famine outlasts the grain and Jacob's sons must return to Egypt on the terms Joseph established. Through the famine, God begins transforming the disaster of Jacob's family into new life. The same forceful leadership Judah once used to sell Joseph into slavery now becomes God's vehicle for rescuing Simeon and protecting Benjamin. The guilt Joseph's brothers have carried for over twenty years begins to be a vehicle for reconciliation. The brothers pass Joseph's first two tests of honesty and loyalty, and chapter ends with all the brothers seated at Joseph's table, inexplicably arranged in birth order, yet with Benjamin given more than the others -- a test designed by Joseph to see how they'll handle disproportionate favor shown to their younger brother.
